Celebrating Earth Hour with Youth!

Earth Hour is a global event that raises awareness about sustainability and climate change by encouraging people to turn off their lights for one hour. As part of this initiative, the Climate Change Secretariat, in partnership with the Department of Environment and the City of Iqaluit, organized a series of activities to highlight the importance of Earth Hour, energy conservation, and climate action.

Nunavut's Sustainable Energy Support Policy: A Steps Towards Nunavut’s Sustainable Energy Transition

The Government of Nunavut has taken a significant step forward in its commitment to support sustainable energy projects in Nunavut with the approval of their new Sustainable Energy Support Policy (SESP). This policy modernizes and replaces the former Renewable Energy Support Policy (RESP), providing a comprehensive framework that supports the Government of Nunavut's goal of reducing the territory’s reliance on fossil fuel while also enhancing Nunavut’s energy security, economic development, and climate resiliency.

 

Northern Infrastructure Standardization Initiative

Infrastructure in the Canadian Arctic is being affected by climate change impacts such as permafrost thaw, coastal erosion, and changing temperatures and precipitation patterns.  With this in mind, the Standards Council of Canada established the Northern Infrastructure Standardization Initiative (NISI), which creates standards that are specific to infrastructure in the north
