On World Environment Day, become a Climate Change Champion in your community and take action to protect what matters most—our land. The Nunavut Climate Change Secretariat encourages Nunavummiut to take action by becoming climate change champions in their communities.
Who is a Climate Change Champion?
A climate change champion is not someone with special training or expertise. It’s anyone who chooses to take action—at home, at work, and in their community—to help protect the environment and support a more sustainable future.
Across Nunavut, people are already taking steps that make a difference. From reducing energy use at home, to reusing materials, to spending time on the land and sharing knowledge with others. Everyday actions like these all contribute to stronger, more resilient communities.
What Does Climate Action Look Like?
Climate action can take many forms, and it doesn’t have to be complicated. Small, consistent actions can have a meaningful impact over time.
Examples of climate action include:
- Reducing energy use
- Fixing items instead of replacing them
- Reusing materials and reducing waste
- Choosing to walk, bike, or share rides when possible
- Picking up garbage while out on the land
- Encouraging friends, family, and colleagues to take action
- Get informed by downloading the Climate Change Champions Toolkit
Even though these actions may seem small on their own, together they can lead to real and lasting change.
Why It Matters
Climate change is already being felt across the North. Taking action at the individual and community level helps build resilience and supports the long-term health of Nunavut’s environment, communities, and way of life.
By becoming climate champions, Nunavummiut can help:
- Protect the land, air, and water
- Support community well-being
- Reduce environmental impacts over time
- Inspire others to take action
Climate action is not about doing everything perfectly—it’s about making choices that contribute to a better future.
