The Ikayuut Solar and Energy Storage Project will provide 30% of Naujaat’s electricity demand with locally-produced clean energy, displacing an estimated 400,000 litres of diesel per year and reducing lifetime carbon emissions by over 30,000 tonnes. The project will also help move the community away from reliance on fossil fuel-based energy generation, and provide opportunities for local jobs and sector-specific training. The project was named “Ikayuut” by the community of Naujaat. The name is derived from the Inuktitut word “Ikayuuti” meaning “support”.
