Earth Day 2026 – Our Power, Our Planet

The Climate Change Secretariat (CCS), in partnership with the Department of Environment, is inviting Nunavummiut to take part in a series of activities to celebrate Earth Day 2026.

This year’s theme, Our Power, Our Planet, highlights the shared responsibility to protect our air, land, water, and wildlife for future generations. It also serves as a reminder that small, everyday actions—such as spending time in nature, reducing waste, and raising awareness—can contribute to meaningful change across communities.

To mark the occasion, CCS and the Department of Environment are launching a territory-wide photo challenge. Nunavummiut are encouraged to get outside, capture a moment in nature, and share a photo of themselves holding a “Happy Earth Day” sign.

Participants can submit their entries by posting on social media using the hashtag #EarthDayNU or by emailing their photos to environmentcontest@gov.nu.ca

In Iqaluit, residents are also invited to attend a free screening of the documentary The Year Earth Changed. The screening will take place at the Astro Theatre on Saturday, April 25 at 1:30 p.m., offering an opportunity for the community to come together and reflect on the relationship between people and the environment.

Earth Day is an opportunity to reconnect with the land and consider how individual and collective actions can support a healthier, more resilient future for Nunavut.
