World Bicycle Day 2026

On World Bicycle Day, the Nunavut Climate Change Secretariat in partnership with the Government of Nunavut’s Department of Health invite Nunavummiut to take simple, meaningful climate action by choosing to ride a bike instead of driving.

Riding a bike is a practical and climate-friendly way to get around. Even short trips by bike can help reduce emissions, improve local air quality, and reduce the overall impact on the land. Biking is also more than just a climate-friendly mode of transportation, it’s an accessible way to stay active, support cardiovascular health, and promote mental wellness. Regular physical activity can help reduce stress, improve mood and energy levels, and support healthier daily routines. Biking is also an enjoyable way to spend time outdoors and connect with the land.

Small actions add up. By choosing to ride a bike instead of driving, Nunavummiut can reduce their impact on the environment while supporting healthier, more active communities.

Did you know, globally, bicycles play a significant role in transportation. It is estimated that there are approximately 1.5 billion bicycles worldwide, highlighting how widely used this simple and accessible form of transportation is.
