Premier Akeeagok and Minister Joanasie meet with the Nunavut Climate Change Youth Advisory Committee.

NuCCYAC with Premier and Minister

On February 2nd, Nunavut’s Premier, P.J. Akeeagok, and Nunavut’s Minister of Environment, Mr. David Joanasie, met with members of our Nunavut Climate Change Youth Advisory Committee (NuCCYAC), during the committee’s annual planning meeting.  During the session NuCCYAC members had the opportunity to engage in a meaningful discussion with the Premier and Minister Joanasie. Both leaders expressed their admiration for the committee, emphasizing how inspiring it was to see young, passionate Nunavummiut acting on one of the most pressing challenges of our time. They also shared personal insights about how their experiences have shaped their understanding of environmental and climate issues.  The discussion was informal and engaging, with committee members raising a number of key concerns.  This conversation provided a valuable opportunity for youth to voice their perspectives and contribute to shaping Nunavut’s climate policies. The exchange reinforced the importance of collaboration between current leaders and decision-makers, and young leaders, in building a more resilient future.
