The Government of Nunavut is inviting individuals to apply for its representative position on the Nunavik Marine Region Planning Commission.
The Nunavik Inuit Land Claims Agreement was signed by the Makivik Corporation, the Government of Nunavut and Canada and came into force April 1, 2008. The Agreement settles unresolved issues stemming from the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement, to which the Inuit of Nunavik are signatories. It covers the Nunavut offshore region adjacent to Quebec including the islands and waters along the shores of James Bay, Hudson Bay, Hudson Strait and Ungava Bay, as well as a portion of northern Labrador and an offshore area adjacent to Labrador. The Agreement is closely modeled on the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement.
The GN is responsible to nominate someone to represent their seat on the Planning Commission for a 3-year term to likely begin in May 2012.
If you know an individual from Nunavut who is familiar with Nunavik offshore environmental management issues and who wishes to be considered for this board, please forward an application and a resume.
The deadline for nominations is 5:00 p.m., March 16, 2012. Nominations received after that time will not be considered.
If you wish to forward a nominee for consideration, or require further information, please contact the person below or at the addresses noted below.
